The fun began yesterday when I received a phone call at 7:30 p.m. The woman on the other end gave me an xfile with basic travel information. The pass code to use at the baggage claim area was (NW127). Not sure where to use it or anything else, but I think that is the point.
Today I went to the airport and ran into Summer, a friend of mine, on her way to Chicago. It was strange to see her because she attended one of the travel camps I led many years ago. Now I am leaving on the most xtreme mission trip I know of. Two flights later, I arrived at the St. Paul/Minneapolis airport. The first xfile was a flight number that got there before mine because of a storm. While trying to find who was on the plane, another Xtreme Teamer, Matt, found me.
Each of the next arriving Xtreme Teamers had a clue to find the next person. Another xfile led us to a van. We were instructed by another xfile not to speak and to open the next xfile once we got out of the van. We drove around the city and then we were dropped off and told to carry our bags and follow the xfile instructions. This led us to a church where we were shown our rooms and ate pizza.
We met as a group to talk about the Xtreme Team and how the days experiences relates to life. We also got a chance to learn a little about who we are traveling with through an xtreme version of charades. Later, we went to a park to take photos for the website. While there, we tossed a frisbee around with three local children. It was nice to learn about them and build a relationship with the rest of the xtremer's. We have a lot more to learn before we will be ready to leave for Thailand. This has been a great start to what is sure to be a life changing trip. I can hardly wait to see what God has planned for us over the next 39 days.
