Ok... so Wednesday morning we had to wake up early to be up
and ready to leave by 8:30am. While eating
breakfast at the Evangelical Theological Seminary of Cairo, we got an X-file saying we were headed out of Egypt
we just didn't know where exactly? After eating we threw our bags into the van
and headed out!? Since we couldn't bring our iPods’ on the trip I've been
singing all of Michael Buble's songs and all kinds of different songs that I
have memorized ha-ha! I was dying to hear some of his music and after about 45
minutes R. brought out his mp3. I wasn’t all too sure at first about what
music he would have but WOW he had the exact music I was begging for ha-ha from
Michael Buble to The fray and Plain White T’s hearing those couple songs
TOTALLY made my day! Possibly my trip ha-ha! They just reminded me of home and
took me back for those brief moments you know? It was such an awesome day!
For lunch that day, we ate scalloped potatoes chicken and rice at a mini hotel which was AWESOME food! The potatoes reminded me of some potatoes my mom makes so that was really cool, and it continued to make my day even better! We finally reached St. Katherine’s Monastery (Greek Orthodox) at Mount Sinai. The monastery, all the rocks and canyons were AMAZING! There were so many beautiful colors on the rocks and the way the sun hits them is BEAUTIFUL! Seeing all the rocks makes me want to get into rock climbing when I get back home.
The next day we went into the monastery church and saw all the icons that were really old. Some books I saw were about the Iliad of Odysseus, and the apostle Paul. After eating lunch and resting a little we started the hike for Mt Sinai - 7,540 ft, and each foot was brutal! We went up the “gentle” sloped side of the mountain but it was hard! You could take camels but we didn’t. It wasn’t t too hot but it was a tough climb after 15 minutes your back gets all soaked because of the backpack we were carrying. Climbing to the top was not easy and made me wish I did take those couple weeks before to hike a couple miles to get used to it. We took 2 or 3 breaks which we really did need! The view along the way was breathtaking. I thought to myself how could it get any better than this? But it did, once we got to the top, WOW all you can see is 360 degrees of mountains and sky! Seeing all the colors and these red and gray stripes run through the sides of the mountains was amazing! It took us a little more than 3 hours to get to the top but once we did we were absolutely beat, the guide didn’t even look like he broke a sweat, ha-ha. At the top we had bread and juice in remembrance of what Jesus has done for us. We stayed till sunset which was really beautiful! Once we started heading down my legs felt like jelly and I started to wonder how I would make it down if my legs are already so exhausted! But we all had to keep pushing forward and we did. The moon was almost full and the stars were out so they gave plenty of light on the mountain to light our path which was cool! It took us maybe a 1hr and 45min to get back down and then we had dinner and rested on some down time.
